For the 2022 growing season, the Food Literacy Project will be farming on at The Shawnee People’s Garden, located at 536 N 44th St. in Louisville’s West End. We are working in partnership with Metro Parks and Ag in the City, another organization working to increase the availability of fresh produce to foster healthier neighborhoods.

Here at the People’s Garden, the Youth Community Agriculture Program will continue to sow seeds, tend to crops, harvest the bounty, and share with neighbors – cultivating change toward a healthy and equitable community where people and places thrive. Along the way, they will learn from a variety of community leaders, activists, changemakers, and business owners about topics such as redlining, petitioning, zoning, and grocery store disparities.

This work began on Oxmoor Farm, continued at Iroquois Urban Farm, and will now grow forward at the People’s Garden. This will not be our final move. We are continuing our search for a permanent home for our work, where youth will cultivate land and community year after year. You can follow along with our search and stay up to date by signing up for our email list and following us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
