Youth Community Agriculture Program (YCAP) Outreach Cultivator Cohort
TERMS: Seasonal, March 2nd – December 1st 2026
HOURS: 20 hours per week, 2-3 evenings and 1-2 morning shifts Monday-Friday required weekly in the spring and fall, 4 morning shifts Tuesday-Friday weekly in the summer, some weekends required
Compensation: $17/hour, IRA match available

Job Summary
The Youth Community Agriculture Program (YCAP) is a paid employment opportunity during which crew members and cultivator cohort participants build skills in sustainable agriculture, leadership, and community engagement while supporting Food Literacy Project programming.
The Outreach Cultivator is a leader within the YCAP Crew and holds a highly outward-facing role focused on connecting FLP with the broader community. This position supports outreach, relationship-building, volunteer engagement, and public-facing programs. Outreach Cultivators represent FLP at community events, help strengthen partnerships with local organizations, and support Field-to-Fork programming through community engagement efforts.
YCAP Crew Members and the Cultivators Cohort work together to grow food, facilitate community programming, and deepen their understanding of food justice. Participants build gardening, culinary, career, leadership, and civic engagement skills, work experience, and a foundation for ongoing success.
Job Responsibilities
Program & Communications Support
- Work closely with YCAP crew members during farm, outreach, and program days to support team goals and community engagement
- Participate in workshops focused on food justice, social justice, and leadership development
- Support Field-to-Fork programming by assisting with logistics, setup, and youth engagement during after-school clubs and in-class sessions
- Assist with newsletter and social media support, including collecting updates, photos, and highlights from outreach events and programs
- Support flyer creation and outreach materials in collaboration with staff and youth participants
Community Outreach & Engagement
- Represent the Food Literacy Project at community events, festivals, and partner sites through tabling and outreach activities
- Assist with planning, preparing for, and staffing outreach events, including setup, breakdown, and community engagement
- Support canvassing efforts related to food access initiatives, programming awareness, and community education
- Distribute flyers, resources, and educational materials to community members and partner organizations
Partnerships & Volunteer Engagement
- Support relationship-building with community partners including schools, neighborhood organizations, nonprofits, and community groups
- Assist with volunteer engagement opportunities, including outreach to volunteers, day-of support, and follow-up
- Help welcome and orient volunteers at the farm and partner sites
General
- Demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and punctuality
- Adhere to the Food Literacy Project’s YCAP Handbook
- Maintain a strong work ethic throughout the cohort term.
- Complete additional duties as assigned, including administrative tasks associated with managing a small nonprofit and urban farm
Job Qualifications
- Age 18–24 between March–November 2026
- Comfortable engaging with the public and representing an organization in community settings
- Strong verbal communication and active listening skills
- Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends
- Prepared to work outside in various weather conditions and community environments
- Thrives in a collaborative, team-based environment
- Interest in community organizing, outreach, food systems, and youth development
- Commitment to the Food Literacy Project’s mission and values
- Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and auto insurance
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Openness to learning and personal growth
- Must pass a criminal background check
