Youth Community Agriculture ProgramSpring 2026 Crew 

The Youth Community Agriculture Program (YCAP) is a paid, 13-week employment opportunity for young people ages 16–21 who are interested in food, community, and making a difference. This spring cohort will work closely together as a small team learning hands-on farming skills while building leadership experience and supporting food justice efforts in Louisville. 

The YCAP crew will spend most of their time harvesting and sharing fresh food, learning about the local food system, and connecting with community members through school programs and neighborhood engagement. 

Program Dates & Schedule 

  • Dates: Orientation March 2nd 4-6PM;  

March 9 – June 4, 2026 

  • Hours: 10-13 hours per week 
  • Compensation: $15/hour  
  • Cohort Model: You’ll be part of a small, supportive group of  youth working and learning together 

Supervision 

  • Supervised by the Youth Engagement Manager and supported by other FLP Staff

What You’ll Do 

On a typical workday, you may: 

  • Harvest and distribute vegetables to community members 
  • Assist with Field-to-Fork clubs and other school or community programs 
  • Learn about food justice, local food systems, and community advocacy through workshops and with guest speakers 
  • Cook and try new recipes using farm-fresh produce 
  • Support with farming activities and youth-led projects 
  • Participate in and help lead group reflections and “Real Talk” conversations 
  • Connect with neighbors and community members through farm tours, field trips, canvassing, and events 
  • Help prepare fields for planting and assist with light site maintenance 
  • Meet local partners working to improve food access in Louisville

Who Should Apply:  

  • Interested persons ages 16-21 who are residents of Jefferson County, Louisville, KY  
  • Ability to perform rigorous and demanding outdoor physical farm labor including: digging, bending, lifting (less than 50 lbs.), squatting and kneeling in Kentucky spring and summer conditions.   
  • Prepared to work outside in all types of weather.   
  • Interest in food systems, building the local food economy, food access, cooking, sustainable agriculture, the environment & community service.   
  • Openness to personal growth & desire to build job and leadership skills.   
  • Ability to work and communicate in a team as well as independently.   
  • Ability to pass a background check if 18 years or older  

No prior farming experience is required—you will receive thorough training. We’re looking for young people who are curious, dependable, and excited to learn and work as part of a team.
