Youth Community Agriculture Program (YCAP) Outreach Cultivator Cohort: Communications 

TERMS: Seasonal, March 2nd – December 1st 2026 

HOURS: 20 hours per week, 2-3 evenings and 1-2 morning/afternoon shifts Monday-Friday required weekly in the spring and fall, 4 shifts Tuesday-Friday weekly in the summer, some weekends required 

Compensation: $17/hour, IRA match available

Job Summary 

The Youth Community Agriculture Program (YCAP) is a paid employment opportunity during which crew members and cultivator cohort participants build skills in sustainable agriculture, leadership, and community engagement while supporting Food Literacy Project programming. 

The Communications Cultivator has additional responsibilities including creating compelling written and visual content, leading YCAP-driven social media and outreach efforts, engaging with community members during outreach events, and helping facilitate productive and meaningful crew workdays.  

Job Responsibilities 

Program & Communications Support 

  • Support and work closely with YCAP crew members during farm and research workdays to advance team goals and community engagement, including creating flyers, social media posts, and other youth-determined outreach materials, and taking photographs. 
  • Assist in the implementation of workshops, educational activities, and opportunities for youth participants in YCAP, Field-to-Fork programs, and other community engagement efforts. 
  • Create and prepare resources and flyers for distribution to community members, including recipe cards, produce storage tips, vegetable garden care cards, and canvassing materials. 
  • Support the Food Literacy Project’s diverse vegetable production using sustainable, organic, and agroecologically inspired growing methods. 
  • Participate in preparing fields, planting, watering, cultivating, harvesting, and distributing produce at the FLP Farm. 
  • Investigate and share knowledge with community members about food justice issues affecting the Louisville community. 
  • Enthusiastically participate in workshops focused on social justice, food justice, and the culinary arts in Louisville. 

Community Outreach & Engagement 

  • Represent the Food Literacy Project at community events, festivals, and partner sites through tabling and outreach activities 
  • Provide occasional weekend program support, including Community Days at the farm. 
  • Support canvassing efforts related to food access initiatives, programming awareness, and community education 
  • Distribute flyers, resources, and educational materials to community members and partner organizations 

General  

  • Demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and punctuality 
  • Adhere to the Food Literacy Project’s YCAP Handbook 
  • Maintain a strong work ethic throughout the cohort term. 
  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including administrative tasks associated with managing a small nonprofit and urban farm 

Job Qualifications 

  • Age 18–24 between March–November 2026 
  • Comfortable engaging with the public and representing an organization in community settings 
  • Strong verbal communication and active listening skills 
  • Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends 
  • Prepared to work outside in various weather conditions and community environments 
  • Thrives in a collaborative, team-based environment 
  • Interest in community organizing, outreach, food systems, and youth development 
  • Commitment to the Food Literacy Project’s mission and values 
  • Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and auto insurance 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Openness to learning and personal growth 
  • Must pass a criminal background check
