Sweet Bukali

A dish from the Democratic Republic of the Congo by Jonathan

Sweet bukali is a staple to my family and my favorite dish I love it because I’ve been eating it since I was born.

My family and I eat bukali 2 to 3 time a day, 365 days a year.

  • about 8 cups of Water
  • heat
  • Bunga (flour)



  1. Boil water first for like 10 to 15 minutes, add a bit of bunga, stir for like 3 minutes.
  2. After that add bunga again while stirring until it becomes stiff.
  3. Cover the pot for 3 minutes and and its ready.
  4. Bukali can be eaten with cooked fish and vegetables like in the picture or with bush meat.
